Flâneur-ing through Ahmedabad–3: Bhatiyar Gulley by the day
For those like me who love to gorge on non veg food, Bhatiyar gulley is no foreign name in this majority vegetarian city. Located beside the iconic ‘Teen Darwaza’ (Three Gates) in the old, eastern city of Ahmedabad is this non veg food lover’s delight which was also once featured on Chef Aditya Bal’s show ‘Chakh Le India’ on NDTV GoodTimes. Come evening and this street comes alive with variety of roadside stalls serving scrumptious chicken, mutton and beef based delicacies and with people from all walks of life gathering at one place for some cheap and delicious street non veg food.
So we know how it is during the night, will probably cover it in another post too, but while going towards Jama Masjid one morning I decided to check out this dingy lane for it falls in the way, and boy I was surprised to see a flourishing meat market where number of butchers had spread out their fare and with people buying chicken (even live) by the numbers; probably the chicken that I eat at the local KFC store might also be supplied from here. Also it’s interesting to see how they hang your meat (ok, that sounds wrong) for display.
Here are few interesting pictures that I clicked and such things you won’t see anywhere in Ahmedabad but here, and if you’re a vegetarian reading this, please go away for there are chances you might want to throw up…
